What is your educational background?
I obtained my Ph.D. in Marketing from Rutgers University in U.S. Prior to that I earned Master’s in Business Administration (Concentration in Marketing) from Yonsei University, and B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Oregon.

What made you decide to go into field?
The reason that I decided to become an assistant professor is that I am passionate about marketing education and the difference that it can make in our world. My work experiences, education, training, and passion have been the driving force for me to pursue a career as an academic educator in Marketing. After graduating from college, I spent time as a production manager for a fashion company in New York City. I really enjoyed my work but I realized that I’d rather go into academia than stay in industry, and I went back to South Korea to pursue a Master’s degree. While I was in graduate school, much of my job involved research related to consumer behavior. Eventually, I realized that I wanted to have a career that was more personally fulling and service to students.

What is your research/teaching interests?
I have diverse research interests. My research lies at the intersection of consumer behavior and marketing strategy. My research focuses on the area of persuasive marketing message in online platforms. I also research on several interesting research projects, one of which investigates whether purchase intention of expiration date-based pricing products differs from the time of day. My primary teaching area is Marketing management. I focus on preparing students for the business world of today to maximize their potential for success in their career.

What attracted you to the National Chengchi University?
What attracted me to National Chengchi University was the dedication of the faculty, staff, and students to being the best. NCCU seems like the kind of school where everyone is trying to learn and improve as a part of a community, and I was excited for the opportunity to join such a space.

Any advice for students who want to work or study abroad?
Studying abroad is a unique rewarding experience that offers you an opportunity to grow academically and personally. My advice to studying abroad is to not only concentrate on studies or the subjects you are learning but also dedicate time to mixing and socializing with other students of various cultures and different nationalities. This enriching multicultural experience will certainly help you in your future career roles such as decision-making processes, and most important of all in dealing with people from different cultural backgrounds in a globalized commercial environment which has nowadays become the norm rather than the exception.
